Mexican authorities have detained two individuals in the municipality of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, in the northwest of the country. They were transporting 320 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden in a refrigerated box concealed within a semi-truck.
On his social media, Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), reported the arrest of the individuals, who had hidden the drugs in a refrigerated box concealed in the semi-truck.
«With this action, thousands of doses of drugs are prevented from reaching the streets,» stated the official, who detailed that agents from the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Attorney General's Office (FGR) and Mexico's security cabinet participated in the operation.
Since February 5th, when the 'Northern Border Operation' began—an agreement with the President of the United States to curb the 'invasion' of migrants and drugs and thus avoid the imposition of 25% tariffs on national products—Mexico has seized over 114 tons of drugs, including 549 kilograms of fentanyl.
Since September 2024, an internal power struggle has been ongoing within the Sinaloa Cartel, which the United States declared a terrorist group this year following the July arrest of its co-founder, Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada, after Joaquín Guzmán López, one of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán's sons, turned him over to the United States.
The conflict between 'Los Chapitos' and 'Los Mayos' has caused more than 1,000 deaths in Sinaloa since September 2024.
